Barley with a Bigfoot: Sierra Nevada’s Bigfoot Barleywine style Ale.

Sierra Nevada is one of the original American craft beer revolutionaries, from the original hoppy American Pale Ale to today’s offering of Bigfoot Barleywine they are one of the originals.

The rapid speed at which the craft beer industry has moved onto the next big thing has created a gap between the extreme boundary pushers and those who have settled in and made excellent, but slightly predicable beers. Sierra Nevada fall into the second category as evidenced by it’s Bigfoot.

This is a beer that, at 9.6%, is wonderfully well balanced with a good front end of piney hops and a slight sort of grassy taste before the strong alcoholic ending comes roaring across your taste buds. The barley wine ale can sometimes strike me as a dessert beer but not the Bigfoot Ale, regardless this is still a beer that is a cut above even if it is not cutting edge.

Till next time, and I promise it won’t be so long,

Justin
